UNIVERSAL DANCE

COMPETITION 2017

Saturday 17th of June 2017 from 17:00 - 19:00. 

​

ALL dance styles are welcome to join! Standard-Latin, Salsa, Bachata, Disco, Breakdance, Hip Hop, Waacking, Twerk, Afro, Reggaetón, Dancehall, Jazz, Swing, Ballet, Flamenco, Samba, Bellydance, Bollywood, Burlesque, Poledance and much more - you name it! You can also do your own mix of different dance styles. We seek versatility.

The 8 best dance groups will have to compete 1-1 across different dance genres. The first and second round, the dance groups will have a choreography prepared. The semi final and final round will be freestyle.

FIRST AND SECOND ROUND

​

The first round, the 8 groups will show their first choreography.

Next, the 8 groups will show their second choreography.

After the second round, the judges will decide which 6 dance groups will go to the semi final.

​

THE FREESTYLE SEMIFINAL

​

The 6 dance groups will battle against each other 1-1, in three battles of 4 minutes. Each battle will have 2 min. of music in the dance style of one group, and 2 min. of music in the dance style of the other group.

​

You will get more information on the day, on how we will give you sign to switch groups in the battle.

​

The judges will choose one group from each of these three battles to go to the final.

THE FREESTYLE FINAL

​

The final round is a freestyle battle, just like the semifinal. The 3 finalist dance groups compete against each other 1-1, but this time 6 minutes in total. 

The three finalists will dance like this in the battle:

Finalist 1 - Finalist 2 (1 min.)

Finalist 2 - Finalist 3 (1 min.)

Finalist 3 - Finalist 1 (1 min.)

Finalist 1 - Finalist 2 (1 min.)

Finalist 2 - Finalist 3 (1 min.)

Finalist 3 - Finalist 1 (1 min.)

 

The groups does not know which songs will be played for both the semifinal and final.

RULES

Dance groups of 2-8 dancers can sign up for the competition.​

​

You have to be at least 14 years old to participate.

​

The competition is open for everyone - from ALL dance genres. No dance genre is excluded!

​

​There is no dress code - but participants MUST NOT be wearing commercial logos from dance schools, sponsors, etc. on their clothes.

​

You may use props if you like

​

You must pick a group name. The group name can not be changed from first round til other rounds.

PRICES

For the top 3 dance groups we have the following prices. The prices are sponsored by Radisson and Sol.

1. price

Total value: 20.000 DKK

 10.000 DKK (fee), and a Gift Card to 6 nights for two persons to hotel Radisson Blu, London

(Approx. value: 10.000 DKK)

2. price

Gift Card to 3 nights for two persons to hotel Radisson Blu, London 

(Approx. value: 5.000 DKK)

3. price

5.000 DKK Concert ticket Gift Card to Royal Arena.

The winner group have to stay afterwards and show a choreography at 21.00

JUDGES

Ronni Morgenstjerne

Choreographer and professional dancer

Choreographer and professional dancer with many years of experience. He was a choreographer at Eurovision Song Contest 2014.

Stephanie Thomasen

Artistic director of Uppercut danseteater / Choreographer / Dancer

Stephanie is a recognized dancer and award-winning choreographer. She was born in 1986 and raised up in Aarhus, where she from an early age took life with the dance. Stephanie is educated at the prestigious Ailey School in NYC in 2009 and has been employed by Uppercut Dance Theater since 2010.

In 2013, Stephanie received a Reumert talent award for her choreographic work, and in 2014 a legacy from Ballet Master Albert Gaubier's Fund. The 360 ° performance was reumert nominated as the Dance Performance of the Year in 2015. In 2016, Stephanie received the Spring Prize for innovative dance theater.

Mark Philip

Artistic director of Uppercut danseteater / Choreographer / Dancer

Mark Philip is born in 1983 in Denmark with Philippine and Danish background. It was the Brazilian battle dance capoeira, who seriously woke up the young Mark's interest in the rhythmic and acrobatic. It was the starting point for a long breakdance career. As one of the main drive forces behind Uppercut Dance Theater, and with an insatiable urge to experiment with movement and expression, Mark has set the barrels high for the company, both as a dancer and choreographer with the latest performances of I AM and Ugly Douglas.

In 2015, a Reumert nomination fell as the Dancer of the Year for his work at 360 °. Subsequently, he received the Ballet Master Albert Gaubier's legacy and an invitation to appear at the Lauritzen Prize 2015. Mark also managed the distinguished task of conferencing at the Crown Princess's 8th wedding anniversary at their official visit to South Korea 2012.

HOW TO SIGN UP

STEP 1

Send us a video and MP3 file

You need to send us a VIDEO with a dance choreography 2-3 minutes long. The person who sends the video is the contact person from each dance group. You must do the same show for the video as for the first round. You must send 2 music files in Mp3 file to info@elstudio.dk.

 

The second music file is for the second round, so you already need to choose the song now, if you go further in the competition. You must also pick a team name. You must name the music files your “GROUP NAME”.

STEP 2

You get the answer

DEADLINE:  

Monday 12th of June 2017 at 16:00 pm

We will choose the 8 best groups to join the competition .

 

If you are chosen to participate in the competition, you need to prepare a dance show for the second round, which takes place the 17th of June.

STEP 3

You are ready to participate!

When you receive a receipt per mail, your team is signed up for the competition! Remember to send us the video, and the two music files to info@elstudio.dk.
